Crew's Quarters: Christian Keyboarding

Wanna' know a secret? I can't type. Never learned. I took nerdy courses like Calculus, Physics, and Latin. Typing didn't fit into the schedule so I never took it. So, over the years, I've become pretty proficient at hunt-n-peck and I count on the spell check to catch typos. (Never spelling errors - I can spell. I just can't type!)

My kids - they can type. Unfortunately, they type like this: G2CU H&K TTYL because they are children of the 21st Century. Unfortunately, Calculus, Physics, and Latin did not prepare me to live in the 21st century. So, in order to preserve the sacred communication between mother and child, I felt that perhaps they should learn to type in a style I can read. My children beg to differ. Apparently, they are more than happy limiting their conversation with other children of this millennia.

I am attempting to convince them that their future college professors will thank us both if they bend to the whim of academic convention and learn to communicate the old fashioned way. And so, the battle continues.

If you want a shot at teaching your children to type, here's a nifty little program that might fit the bill.

Keyboarding for the Christian School Elementary($$12.95) or High School($15.95)  version. Together, both sell for $22.00

These two book are available in e-book form and cover all of the basics of any good typing course in 30+ easy to follow lessons. Each lesson introduces a few new letters and then offers opportunity to practice the new along with the review. Bible passages are used for practice. The high school course also covers MLA, business letters, cover letters, and a variety of other types of correspondence. This is a nice, no frills program with minimal bells and whistles available at a reasonable price.  If you want to see some actual pages, you can access sample lessons HERE.

If your kids are the type that can get it done with a low tech approach, this might be they program for you. Until Feb 28, 2010, you can get a $5.00 discount by using the code NewYear5.

Take a look here to see what my fellow reviewers are saying.

Disclaimer: I received this program free of charge in exchange for my honest opinion. No other compensation was provided.
